Photos and comments from an epic journey traveling most of the world. I begin in Chicago in January of 2007 and fly to Moscow and then travel across Siberia and the Gobi desert to Beijing. Photos, posts, commentary & thoughts to follow...
If you look hard enough you'll still find some things from the good old days - a bust of Lenin here or there, a hammer & sickle elsewhere...
Believe it or not, I tend to be a planner. I can think of nothing worse than being scheduled on the 2130 train and showing up an hour in advance and not knowing where to go... I visited the rail station yesterday, but decided to go back to see if I could pin down the departure track for the Beijing train. It sounds a lot easier than it was. I wandered around the station for a while and got out on the loading area and finally figured out there were only two or three tracks that would be able to accomodate an international train (15+ cars)(due to the length of the platform). It's gonna be track 1, 2, or 3, I think. This isn't my train, I'm just taking pictures at this point...
Some big train. My friend Tom would know what kind.
